What is the AEC? PDF Print E-mail

The Spanish Association of Climatology (A.E.C.) was created on 17 December, 1997 within the Geography Department of the Autónoma University of Madrid, where its provisional articles of association were worded and a Managing Board was chosen. This board is composed by: Mª Fernanda Pita López (Seville University, Mª Victoria Marzol Jaén (La Laguna University), Encarnación Galán Gallego (Autónoma University of Madrid), Rosa Cañada Torrecilla (Autónoma University of Madrid), José Creus Novau (Spanish Research Council), José Mª Cuadrat Prats (Zaragoza University) and Felipe Fernández García (Autónoma University of Madrid).

On the 28th of February, 1998 the first General Extraordinary Assembly was held, during which the members approved the definitive Articles of association and chose the first Board of Directors, composed by: Javier Martín Vide (President), Mª Fernanda Pita López (Secretary), Rosa Cañada Torrecilla (Treasurer), José Creus Novau (Member), Sergio Alonso Oroza (Member), Carlos Almarza Mata (Member) y Ernesto López Baeza (Member). The last change of the Board of Directors has taken place on October the 10th, 2008 in Tarragona.

As an Association it was definitively approved by the Ministry of the Interior (Home Office) on the 6th of March, 1998 and registered in the General Register of Associations with the number 162079.

logoaecinteriorThe A.E.C. is a scientific association. Its aim is to foster the study of climate and the progress of atmospheric sciences in Spain. It is open to scientists and professionals coming from all knowledge fields who are directly involved or interested in the study of climate. It looks forward to encouraging and spreading interdisciplinary research on all aspects of Climatology with the purpose to help face the many challenges that it poses on the current society.

In order to comply with these objectives, the A.E.C. develops the following activities:

a) It organizes meetings, regular or not, with the aim of presenting and discussing on scientific works.

b) It edits journals, minutes, newsletters and publications and it has a bibliographic information service to spread the scientific research that is related to Climatology.

c) Organization of seminars, conferences and all types of scientific activities, with the contribution of the members and persons invited by the Association.

d) It creates theme work groups for the study of specific problems. e) It promotes the teaching and stimulation of research skills in relation with the scientific fields linked to Climatology.

The AEC has currently an important number of members distributed by the whole Spanish geography. If you are interested in becoming part of it, you can send the registration form duly completed by post.
